For the OXID eShop 3.0 Professional Edition
This module was originally created by the [.nfq] netzfrequenz GmbH and the revised version 2.0 can now be purchased from us. The module is based on the search engine optimized OXID eShop URLs. The SEO module provides an easy solution for further shortening URLs leading to articles and categories and therefore increase relevance to a maximum. These static URLs enable a visible inheritance of the page rank to the subpage. Aim is the higher optimization of the permanent search engine URLs.
The optimization offers two important advantages:
1. On shop optimization:
The SEO URL module provides an attractive enhancement of the internal links with regard to search engines. Dynamic URLs often confuse search engines and therefore prevent a visible inheritance of the page rank to the subpages. The SEO URL offers an easy solution for generating short, relevant and for search engines perfectly intelligible URLs.
2. Off shop optimization:
The quality and the number of external links are by now the most important optimization measure for obtaining a high page rank and a good positioning within the search engines. Potential link partners link more frequently to short URLs then to long dynamic URLs. Such a link is not only easier on the human eye, even search engines appreciate a readable, static and unchangable URL a lot. This leads to better results within the regular (organic) search results from the key words of the link text.

Which links are optimized?
This module starts with the generation of URLs in the shop system, i.e. links to articles and categories are optimized during their generation which means that links are displayed optimized for search engines in places which are dynamically generated by the shop. Links which are statically written into templates or long texts are not considered.
This enables the existance of permanent searche engine URLs at an almost unchanged shop performance.
NEW: From OXID eShop PE 3.0.4.0 the session can be saved in a cookie (if not disabled by the user). Thanks to this virtually all shop URLs become far more attractive and do no longer contain such a distracting mess of jumbled numbers and letters.
Multilingualism:
As the OXID eShop itself this module is multilingual. Provided the languages used contain a Latin character set the module can be used without any problems.
Search engine index:
Even shop owners whose shop system has been indexed by search engines for a long time or who have taken care of the circulation of deep links to their products and categories on a large scale are considered in the SEO URL module: All old URLs work as before, no 'old' links will now lead into nothingness due to the implementation of our module. This enables a soft transition without losses.

Technical details:
The module consists internally of two units: the URL encoder which converts the standard shop URLs into a permanent search engine form and the URL decoder which, following some rules, converts incoming URLs into the standard form of the shop system. Thanks to this modularization, the isolation of the shop framework, the danger of collisions with other modules is minimized and the updating capability of the shop system is easier. The module is realized in a way that a change of the OXID eShop templates is absolutely minimized.
Technical requirements:
An Apache webserver with the module 'mod_rewrite' is required for this module - at least for this version of the module. Should you have questions about other approaches we are happy to invest some time into finding an alternative solution.
Limitations:
For the storage of the session ID in a cookie a modification of the core file oxsession.php is inevitable. Should this file change during an update from OXID, the oxsession.php has to be replaced with a new version by us. Of course we will provide you with a customized version free of charge with every update of this file from OXID. If the storage of the session IDs in cookies is deactivated (or the OXID eShop 3.0.3 version or older is used) session information as e.g. information about the OXID PE 3.0 feature 'Recently viewed products' can not be stored. Installation:
We recommend technically not very experienced shop owners use our installation service. After clarification of implementation (see 'limitations') we will install the module for a flat rate of € 150.00 - or depending on time and effort - on your server.
